Fund Raising
The Auction of Promises raised over £2600. Very many thanks to those that donated (see the list of businesses) and those that bid. Our annual street collection raised over £300, many thanks to those that collected and those that gave. Our Indian Event raised over £600 which will fund new toilet facilities at a school for slum children in Calcutta. Our Quiz evening was attended by 50 people and raised nearly £400. The Salvation Army Concert raised around £250 for TWOAT funds and we are very grateful to the Salvation Army for performing and to Christchurch for organising this event with us. We would like to thank Christine Maudesley, who has retired from the committee, for her support over many years and we would like to welcome Bob Gunn from Kingswood who has joined our committee. We are pleased to report that the Sing Carols event with Walton Primary School and our own street Carol Singing each raised over £300 for our Xmas Appeal. We have sent £800 to help a village in Ghana whose local water supply had become contaminated giving rise to serious health problems. This money together with resources and labour from the villagers will fund the construction of a bore hole and provide a clean water supply to 6,000 people. We have sent £1,000, as a result of a legacy, to fund the construction of a new water holding tank for an African school, run by Sister Barbarina, and to contribute to the school's ongoing costs. The Very Reverend Danny Kajumba, Archdeacon of Reigate, spoke very movingly at our Annual Social Meeting concerning the plight of children in Africa. Those present donated over £1,000 which will be used to cover the costs over the next 3 years for 2 children to attend the pre-school, which Danny helped to found in Kampala. I would like to take this opportunity to give our thanks and best wishes to Ron Webb who decided for health reasons to stand down from our committee earlier this year. Ron has organised the bar at many of our events over the last few years and made other significant contributions to raising funds for us. We would be interested to hear about any young people with local connections intending to undertake a Gap Year assignment who might like to become linked with TWOAT. Finally could I please remind you all that we are able to increase the money we give to our projects by over 25% when we can reclaim Gift Aid. If you have not already done so and you are a UK tax payer, please make sure we have a signed Gift Aid declaration form from you these can be obtained from Mike Fox or our Treasurer, John Tedder - go to Contact Us. The following support was given to projects during our last financial year:
